Our Middle School students entered a restaurant-like setting for a “book tasting” last Wednesday in our Middle School Book Club. There was jazz music playing in the background, vases of flowers, tablecloths, place mats, and napkins on the tables; definitely a fancy atmosphere! Each table was set with a selection of books at every plate and a menu to choose different book titles to “taste” from. Students took a seat and “sampled” some of the books in front of them. It was a unique opportunity to get our students out of their comfort zones and get them engaged in new genres, authors, and styles.
After all, books are just like food—you won’t know if you like something until you try it!
